“Scouting for Medieval Times”

2011 Cub Scout Day Camp Information

Thank you for participating in the “Scouting for Medieval Times” 2011 Cub Scout Day Camp held at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 501 NW 16th Street, Grand Rapids, MN.  The Day Camp will be held on Monday, July 11 & Tuesday, July 12, 2010. Registration will take place from 8:00-8:30 am.  Opening Ceremonies begin at 8:30 am.  Camp will conclude both Monday and Tuesday at approx. 4:00 pm.  Scouts must be picked up by 4:15 pm.



- Official Day Camp t-shirt (pick up the first day of camp)

- Change of clothes

- Raincoat (camp will continue unless whether is severe – so be prepared!)

- Jacket or sweatshirt (in case of cooler weather)

- Swim suit & towel for water activities (weather permitting-Tuesday only)

- Water bottle/canteen (fresh water is available in several locations for fresh refills)

- Lawn chair

- Bag lunch with beverage (Monday only).  Lunch items MUST be peanut-freeThere are a few Cub Scouts who are

     DEATHLY ALLERGIC to peanuts and products containing peanut butter/peanut oil/peanuts.  They can go into a life-

     threatening attack by simply coming in contact with an object that was touched by another person who touched a peanut or

     anything that contained peanuts.  Please help us make this a safe experience for all – THANKS!!

- Raw Egg packaged by Scout for Egg Drop-see enclosed instructions (Tuesday only).

- 2-liter plastic bottle. Empty and clean.  (NEED MONDAY to build bottle rocket)

Please have your son’s name or initials on ALL items or clothing belonging to him.  Packing everything in a bag or backpack will also help.  It truly is amazing how many scouts do not remember what possessions and clothing they had at camp and it is difficult for us to find the right homes for everything left when camp is over.



  • Personal Health History – All youth and adults must have a health history form on file at camp.  Scouts will not be allowed to participate in camp activities without a completed health history form.  If you haven’t already turned in your health form, please complete one immediately and bring it with you to camp.
  • Orders for Medication – If your Scout needs to take medication during camp hours, an “Orders for Medication Form” is required to be on file at camp.  Medication cannot be given at camp without a completed “Medication Form.”  IF medication has special need of refrigeration please supply a cooler with ice for this purpose.
  • Early Checkout from Camp Form – If your Scout needs to leave camp early, this form must be completed and returned to camp at registration the first day of camp.  Under no circumstances will any Scout be allowed to leave camp early without a signed “Early Out Form.”  Nor will they be allowed to leave with anyone other than the person/persons indicated on that form.  All boys leaving early must be signed out by the adult picking them up from camp.  Please be prepared to show identification. 
  • BB GUN/ARCHERY Permission Slip – This slip must be turned in on or before the first day of camp, before your Scout will be allowed to participate in these shooting sports activities.  There will be NO exceptions. This is a National Boy Scouts of America standard. 

TRADING POST will be open as a station and after closing time both days.

The Trading Post is a Scout store that allows the Scouts to buy trinkets, model

kits, etc. related to Scouting.  Items range in price from $2.00-$20.00.

Egg Drop


Here are the instructions for one of the most exciting things we do

at Cub Scout Day Camp!  Are you ready?  Here’s your challenge.....



Build a container (no bigger than 6 inches by 6 inches by 6 inches).  Place a raw chicken egg inside the container packed in whatever you want (old newspapers, Jell-O, popcorn, rags, whatever you can dream up).


Remember, the egg must be a fresh, raw egg (not frozen, cooked, petrified, or rotten) and nothing can be attached to it (no glue, etc.).


Label the container with YOUR NAME and your Day Camp Den #.  Bring your container to camp with you on TUESDAY.  Now here’s the exciting part…


Eggs will be dropped from approximately 35’-40’ high.  Will your egg survive the drop?  Start dreaming up how you will pack your egg to survive.  Remember – Parachutes are NOT allowed!  Do your best and good luck!


The egg drop will begin shortly after our activity stations wrap up at 2:30 pm.
