Greetings Scouters!

There are many exciting updates to share with everyone across the district!

  • I am pleased to report that we are now officially Noopiming District. Last night the Voyageurs Area Council Executive board approved the new “west” district name of Noopiming which means “inland” Thank you to everyone that suggested names and voted. The executive board also approved our new district chairman, Doug Hirdler. Many of you may recognize the name- he was the Scout Executive of Lake Superior Council during the merger into Voyageurs Area Council and was the general manager of Northern Tier High Adventure Base in Ely until 2008. Please extend a warm welcome to Doug as he re-enters our District and Council.

  • Noopiming had its first District Committee meeting Tuesday March 8th. The committee is led by district chairman Doug Hirdler and is well on its way of forming new committees. If you have any questions or would like to serve on the district committee please email Doug Hirdler at [Click for member's page] The committee will continue to meet the first Thursday of each month at 7:30pm. The locations will vary depending on the month. April’s meeting (April 7) will be conducted via satellite locations through a video feed in Bemidji, International Falls, Grand Rapids and Virginia.

  • Jace Tramontin is now the Noopiming District Commissioner. He is working hard to establish Assistant District Commissioners in each service area. If you are interested in being a Unit Commissioner or Roundtable Commissioner please contact him at [Click for member's page]

  • I just completed my practical portion of Wood Badge for the 21st Century along with 19 (out of 36 total participants) fellow Scouters from the Noopiming District. What an honor it was to complete this fabulous course with each of you. For those who were not able to attend or are new to the Scouting program- I urge you to go in 2013- it is worth every minute! Stay tuned to the VAC website for more information. I am also pleased to note that our very own Rock Gillson is the Course Director/Scoutmaster for the next course!
