Greetings Scouters!


Again there is a lot going on in the Noopiming District! Read on for the latest information:



  • It appears that Scouting For Food was very successful across the District. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this year a success! Here are the totals:
    • Bagley- 1,150 lbs
    • Eveleth- 350
    • Grand Rapids- 1,775
    • Hibbing- 3,000
    • Hill City- 160
    • Orr- 250
    • TOTAL 6685 Pound of food!


  • Last month there was a fabulous Merit Badge Extravaganza in Mountain Iron. The coordinators are looking for feedback to help make next year’s event better than ever. If you have ideas, suggestions, comments, concerns or anything else relating to this event please email Natalie [Click for member's page] or sotterson@mchsi.com I know they would greatly appreciate your comments.


  • International Falls and Baudette had a great Scout Expo and Pinewood Derby April 9th at the International Falls mall!


  • The Voyageurs Area Council is going to engage in a mass universal School Night for Scouting on September 15th. The goal is to have a recruitment night in EVERY elementary school across the council this date. More information and a webinar schedule will be coming out soon.


  • Spring recruitment- if your Pack, Troop or Crew is going to be active this summer we encourage you to do a recruitment this spring. This is particularly effective with Kindergarteners and 5th graders who will become eligible for the next grade beginning in June. If you need flyers or help with Boy Talk’s, please contact your unit commissioner, Ben Mahlke or myself for arrangements.


  • Roundtables- Noopiming District has 3 Roundtables that Scouters can choose from. Bemidji Area Roundtables are held at Calvary Lutheran Church the second Thursday of each month beginning at 7pm. Mt Iron Roundtables are held at Merritt Elementary School the second Thursday of each month beginning at 7pm. International Falls Roundtables are held the second Tuesday of each month at Faith United Church beginning at 6:30pm.


  • Noopiming District Committee Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month. The locations alternate between Grand Rapids and virtual meetings utilizing WebEx.


  • The Voyageurs Area Council has scheduled Friday, April 30, 2011 as the deadline for the Council Camp Sign-up for the period of October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012. All units will have the opportunity until that time via mail, e-mail or fax to register for the weekend they would like to use one of these four council camping facilities.   • Order of the Arrow Spring Conclave- is scheduled for the weekend of April 29th at CL Sommers Canoe Base in Ely. Click here for more info.


  • Grand Rapids Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser- will be April 30th. Tickets have been distributed and Scouts should be selling. Please remember the exciting new incentives for the top seller and also the drawing Scouts are entered into for every 10 tickets they sell.   • District Commissioners Meeting will also take place during the Expo May 7th at the Thunderbird Mall in Virginia beginning at 11am


  • “Perfect Weekend Campout”- May 20-22 at the Balsam Community Center. This is NOT a spring camporee but rather a group of Scouts getting together for camping and fellowship since the spring camporee was cancelled.   •  Ripley Rendezvous- is to be held at Camp Ripley June 3-5. Registration information was mailed to all Scoutmasters but can also be found at www.ripleyrendezvous.orgExternal Link


  • Scout Day at Valley Fair- June 4. Valley Fair has informed us of a Scout Day at Valley Fair event. Click here for more info.


  • Webelos Action Camp (WAC) Spring- is scheduled for June 10-12 at Camp Chicagami outside of Eveleth. Please note the May 9th Early Bird Registration deadline. Click here for more information.




  • Arrow Power 2011- is a service project that will take place in the Superior National Forest and will be based out of Grand Marais, MN. It is being organized by Area 1 Order of the Arrow members and is modeled after a national Order of the Arrow event called ArrowCorps5 that took place in 2008 and included service projects in five different national forests in the United States. ArrowPower2011 is a partnership with the US Forest Service and has been in the works for two years. Registration is now open to non Arrowmen.  More details here.



  • There will be a family potluck August 1st at Gunn Park near Grand Rapids from 5-8pm.


  • Fall Camporee- info will be ready for  distribution at the May Roundtables. Stay Tuned!
