You Can Make A Difference!

Achieving both the immediate and long-range program objectives of the Voyageurs Area Council becomes increasingly more challenging each year. Financial resources must be secured to guarantee sufficient means to meet these program objectives and ensure the future of Scouting in the Voyageurs Area Council.

Annual operating costs must be secured through gifts from the friends and families of Scouting, United Way Support, foundation grants, and through special events and activities. Support from special events, project sales, and activities have increased each year but cannot be counted on for long-range stability. The council does not receive any federal, state or local tax support to fund Scouting programs.

The most realistic solution to this responsibility is in further development and expansion of the Voyageurs Area Council Endowment Fund. This permanent, professionally managed fund is restricted in order that the principal remains in perpetuity, with only earned income used annually for the support of program.

The Scouting Heritage Society

In an effort to encourage support for the Voyageurs Area Council Endowment Fund, the Scouting Heritage Society has been established, to recognize those who believe in preserving the tradition and values of Scouting, as well as perpetuating its future for generations to come. The Heritage Society is a program to recognize those who include Scouting in their estate planning or make outright gifts to the Endowment Fund of the Voyageurs Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.

You may qualify for membership in the Heritage Society by:

  • Making outright gifts of cash, securities, stock, land, antiques, art, real estate, insurance, copyrights, oil rights to the Endowment Fund of the Voyageurs Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.
  • Making a new or revising an existing will by directing a percentage, fixed amount, or a contingency statement directing an eventual gift to the Endowment Fund of the Voyageurs Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.
  • Naming the Endowment Fund of the Voyageurs Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, as a primary or second beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy.
  • Creating a Charitable Remainder Interest or an Annuity Trust, a Pooled Life Income Agreement, a Charitable Gift Annuity, a Short-Term Trust, a Life Estate or bank deposit that eventually directs all or a portion of the principal to the Endowment Fund of the Voyageurs Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Gifts to the Voyageurs Area Council’s Endowment Fund may be directed for general purposes or designated as restricted gifts for special purposes. There are many ways a gift can be made that will provide the greatest possible tax advantages. In addition, a planned gift can help achieve financial and estate planning objectives.

If you qualify for membership in the Heritage Society, please let us know. If not, we hope you will accept this invitation to join. For more information contact the Council Service Center.
