Re: How Would You Like to Volunteer?
The Voyageurs Area Council, and the BSA is blessed with some of the highest levels of volunteer engagement, both locally and across the country. All too often, however, we in positions of leadership in Scouting may find ourselves saying, “We don’t have enough volunteers.” or “No one steps up these days.” Or “How come it can’t be like it was 10 or 20 or 30 years ago?” Will you take a 5-7 minutes to complete a survey to help us align our most important resource – volunteers like you – with our operating committees and strategic initiatives? Your position in Scouting brings with it the responsibility to serve on one or more council operating committees.
Independent research as well as research completed by the BSA tells us that the way folks volunteer today may actually be different than a generation ago. Two things remains true regardless of if we are Boomers, Millennials, Gen X or something else. 1) We all have some level of affinity for Scouting and give support Scouting with time and resources. 2) The most common reason why when someone is asked “Why didn’t you help out with X project or Y committee or join Z group?.... “No one asked me”
To help you decide which committees or task forces may best align with your interests, you may wish to review our 2017 Strategic Plan prior to completing the survey.
This message, albeit slightly impersonal, is our request to you to take 5-7 minutes to complete an online survey. The results that you share with us will help us align your interest with the needs of our Voyageurs Area Council. You are receiving this message as you are a voting member of our council. Feel free to forward the survey link to others who you think would or could help by serving on any of our many operating committees and task forces.
Results from this survey will be used by our Council President and vice-presidents as they appoint volunteers, like you, to the numerous committees and task-forces of the council.
Not sure why you might be on this list? Drop me a note or give me a call, I’d be glad to visit with you about your position in Scouting.
