Gitche Gumee Camp Newman

Day Camp Information

Thank you for registering to participate in the Cub Scout Day Camp at Camp Newman!  The “Excellence in Sportsmanship” Day Camp will be Saturday, July 19th and Sunday, July 20th.  The boys will be placed into teams #1 - #8 according to their age, NOT their pack.  If you have a special request for children of the same age to be on a particular team, please call Julie Norbie, Camp Director, at 715-392-5351 at least one week prior to camp.  Here are some important things that you need to know:

BREAKFAST:     Please be sure that your son has a good breakfast prior to being dropped off at camp.  The boys will be going non-stop until lunch at 12:10 p.m.

CLOTHING & SUPPLIES:   The official uniform for camp will be the Day Camp T-shirt.  T-shirts will be distributed to the coaches at check-in on Saturday morning and they will hand them out at that time for the boys to put on.  Make sure your son wears his t-shirt to camp again on Sunday!  A backpack with: A filled water bottle and/or canteen (water coolers will be available at locations throughout the camp for refilling); sunscreen & bug spray (both cannot be an aerosol type); a raincoat; a jacket or sweatshirt; a change of clothing (the boys will be getting wet each day) and an empty paper towel roll (for craft project).  Please be sure to label all items with your son’s name so if it was misplaced it can be returned.

LUNCH & SNACKS:   All boys need to bring their own BAG LUNCH on Saturday.  On Sunday, lunch is being provided for all the boys.  Please make sure to label all items with your son’s name.

DAILY PICK-UP:         Pick-up will be at the times specified at the bottom of this letter.  Please make sure that you see your son’s coach and SIGN him out before you leave.  This prevents us from activating our “Lost Boy” plan for a child that has merely gone home with his parent.  Pick-up on Saturday will be at the “starting line” and Sunday’s pick-up will be at the egg sling.  Please park your vehicle on the main road and WALK back to the pick-up areas.  Your son may leave after his egg has been slung, but again, please make sure that you sign him out with his coach.  Also, if you are having someone other than his legal guardian pick him up after camp, a signed note, including the person’s name and telephone number must be brought to camp for us to allow your son to leave.

HEALTH FORM REQUIRED:      All youth and adults must have a health form on file at camp.  SCOUTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN CAMP ACTIVITIES WITHOUT A COMPLETED HEALTH FORM ON FILE WITH US.

AUTHORIZATION FOR ADMINISTERING MEDICATION:   If your son needs to take medication during camp hours, he must have a signed permission slip (with instructions) from you.  MEDICATION WILL NOT BE GIVEN AT CAMP WITHOUT A COMPLETED PERMISSION SLIP ON FILE WITH US.

EARLY DEPARTURE FROM CAMP:   If you son needs to leave camp early – please have him turn in a signed permission slip telling us when he will be leaving camp and who is allowed to pick him up.  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL ANY CHILD BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE CAMP EARLY WITHOUT A SIGNED PERMISSION SLIP ON FILE WITH US.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

·        In the event of severe weather, camp may be canceled for the day.  Please listen to B-105 FM or 610 AM for cancellation information.

·        Please have your son wear sunscreen (non-aerosol) and tell him to drink plenty of water during camp.

·        Bug spray (non-aerosol) is also recommended but remember your son has to be responsible to carry everything brought to camp.   There is no place for us to keep these items.

·        In case of an emergency, a phone will be available in camp.  Please list all phone numbers where you can be reached during camp on the health form.

·        The Trading Post will be open during the cooking station each day and also during the egg sling.  A list of trading post items is enclosed.  The proceeds from the trading post are used to fund activities for the boys through the council.

·        Instructions for the “Egg-sling” are enclosed.  Please bring the egg to camp on Sunday.  Please have your son’s first and last name on it.

·        No Pets Allowed.  We all love them, but not at camp.

·        Walkers.  In previous years it has been helpful to have a wagon or two to help carry things around camp.
