Here is some more information on what we’re up to:

Outdoor location and challenging activity will require additional volunteers and training.

The 2012 Minnesota State Fair will feature the most Scouting visibility since the days when Scouts parked cars and ushered grandstand shows! Our new Boy Scouts Adventure Summit, a climbing course/zipline activity, will take place in the great outdoors, right next to the Eco Center in the “North Woods” section of the Fairgrounds.

It will be a fun and exciting activity for participants, as well as a way to showcase some of the outdoor adventure that is Scouting.  As part of the required waiver process, conducted using iPads, participants will be given the opportunity to directly receive Scouting information via email on joining, volunteering and contributing.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are sought who can help run the activity/booth and serve as enthusiastic Scouting Ambassadors for the public. There will be three four-hour shifts each day, from 9:00 am-1:00 pm, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm and 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Each will require five volunteers. Due to the more high adventure nature of the activity, volunteers must be 16 years of age or older, with at least two adults 18 years of age or older in the booth at all times.

For safety and to ensure smooth operation, volunteers must also participate in a training session prior to the Fair. Training sessions will be held at Base Camp on Sunday, August 19 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm and during the Council Coordinated Committees Meeting on Tuesday, August 21 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 pm. Alternative arrangements will be made for those who cannot attend one of these sessions.
