Schools May Change But Scouting Will Remain the Same In Orr

by Dave Anderson, Vice President of Marketing for the Voyageur's Area Council

It has come to my attention that an earlier news release about Boy Scouts, I forgot to mention the fine work done by Orr's Cub Scout Pack 122 and Boy Scout Troop 427.

That's a big mistake on my part because as a native of northern Minnesota, I've long been a fan of the community spirit in Orr.

This reminds me of the time I went to a seminar at Bemidji State several years ago and talked to a young Anishinabe man from Orr who was proud of his people, his school and his town.

That brings us forward to this day and age when Saint Louis County students from Alborn to Orr and from Cherry to Soudan have concerns about school consolidation.  Schools may change, but hometown pride remains and scouting wants to stay a part of that.

No matter what happens to the schools, Troop 427 Scoutmaster Shaun Halverson wants people to know that Cub and Boy Scouts will remain in Orr and will not have to unite with any other town.

He urges boys interested in scouting to talk to a friend who is already a Scout or to contact him.  Whether you are Anishanabe or Zambian or any other heritage in between, the Boy Scouts of America offer young men a chance to become "Prepared.  For Life."
