Dear Valued Unit Leader -

My name is Thea Stauffenecker and I am newly appointed to support the Voyageurs Area Council’s training efforts.  As a result, I am reaching out to all of our unit leaders asking for your feedback regarding LEADER training.  Please consider completing the following surveyExternal Link.  It should take less than ten (10) minutes to complete.  Your answers will be key to our future training program design and offerings.  If you would like to share the survey with other leaders in your unit(s), please do so.  The more responses we are able to get the better.

It is my ultimate goal to make sure that all of our leaders are trained and afforded the resources to deliver a meaningful and exciting program to our children based on the BSA’s vision and values.  As volunteer leaders, you are crucial to the program’s success.  I would like to share a little about my background in hopes of giving you a basis for my perspective.  I married into a Scouting family about five (5) years ago, and like many of us I got hooked on Scouting by accident.  Those infamous words - “Sure, I can help” at the committee meeting of my now Arrow of Light Scout have sparked my passion for the program and the positive impact it can have on children and adults alike.  I have worked for a hospital in Los Angeles, California for more than twelve years and am charged to lead a 200-person health information/medical record department.  It is in this role as an executive director that I realized my passion for training and growth – professionally and personally.

I firmly believe that training is a gift.  That being said, any training needs to be meaningful, exciting, organized and fun for anyone to want to learn.  We also all learn differently, so we must have a robust training plan with options that reflect our learning styles and access ability.  With this in mind, I have set as my personal goal as a leader of the BSA training in our council, that all volunteers can be trained within 30 days of appointment to a new role.  This is a huge leap from where we are currently at but I am confident we can get there.  We will only improve our children's experience with Scouting by being trained leaders.  I want and need your feedback on how to make training effective for you and your units.

Please take a little time and complete this survey External Linkas soon as possible.  The survey will remain open through February 11.  If you have questions, thoughts, concerns and alike, please feel free to reach out to me via email (thea.stauffenecker@scouting.org) or phone (720) 985-3353.  I am happy to make time for a cup of coffee or to attend unit meetings at your request – just ask!

Yours in friendship and Scouting,

Thea Stauffenecker
