Biography

I was originally involved in Scouting as a youth in Coon Rapids, MN with a Pack and then Troop 212 in Viking Council.  As a youth I attended summer camp at Many Point and also backpacked on Isle Royale and in the Little Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming.  I was fortunate to attend the 1981 and 1985 Jamboree’s.  The highlight of my Scouting career was receiving my Eagle rank in 1985.  I remained active as an Assistant Scoutmaster in college.   Work and a couple of relocations resulted in a hiatus in my involvement for a number of years.

I once again became active as a leader when my son joined Tiger Cubs in 2004 in Eagan, MN.  Over the next 4 years I served as Tiger Cub Den Leader, Wolf and Bear Den Leader and then as Cubmaster for a year.

In 2007 I relocated to Hibbing.  My family followed in the spring of 2008 at which time we joined Pack 9 as a Webelos II Scout and I as Webelos Den Leader.  The transition to Boy Scouts occurred in the spring of 2009 when we joined Troop 17.  I currently serve as Scoutmaster and my son is an Eagle Scout.

I have attended Tomahawk Scout Camp with the Troop the past six years.  In 2010 I served on the cooking staff at the National Jamboree for the Subcamp in which VAC contingents camped, including my son.   I was the adult advisor to a group backpacking trip on Isle Royale in the summer of 2011.  During the summer of 2012 I was fortunate to attend Philmont Scout Reservation with my son as part of VAC Crew 727-S02.

I was honored to be the Scoutmaster for one of the VAC troops attending the 2013 National Scout Jamboree at the new Summit Bechtel Reserve.

In 2014 members of my troop participated in high adventure outings at Northern Tier into the Quetico and SeaBase on a Sailing adventure.  Several Scouts achieved the Triple Crown Award as a result of these trips.

My training includes Scoutmaster and Wood Badge C1-286-11-1.  I am also a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.

I am a firm believer in the Scouting aims of character, citizenship and fitness.  The youth we serve today are the leaders of our communities, country, businesses and Scouting program in the future.  We owe it to them and their peers to provide a program that strengthens the skills and values to lead throughout their lives.
